// PRODUCT SELECTION
Self-clinching fasteners for sheet-metal assemblies.
A self-clinching fastener becomes part of the sheet through the specified installation process. The sheet and prepared hole are part of the selection, not just the thread. Send Webson the complete manufacturer number or the fastener and panel drawings for quotation.

| Component | What it does | What to specify |
|---|---|---|
| Self-clinching nuts | Provide the specified internal thread in the panel. | Full series, thread, shank code and sheet requirements. |
| Self-clinching studs | Provide an installed projecting thread. | Series, thread, length and panel installation details. |
| Self-clinching standoffs | Set a specified offset with the required threaded or clearance interface. | Body length, hole/thread configuration and sheet requirements. |
| Other clinching panel hardware | Provides the attachment function defined by the selected product. | Complete designation, mounting drawing and installation instructions. |
Check the fastener and panel drawings together
Two fasteners with the same thread can need different panel thicknesses, holes or sheet conditions. Preserve the series and all size codes. The selected manufacturer’s installation data controls hole preparation, edge distance, tooling and installation requirements.

| Feature | Information to send | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Sheet | Material, thickness and hardness or condition where required. | Compare against the selected product’s permitted sheet requirements. |
| Mounting hole | Finished diameter, tolerance and preparation. | Use the installation drawing; do not infer the hole from thread size. |
| Edge and tool clearance | Hole location, nearby bends and access on both sides. | Check edge-distance and tooling requirements before selection. |
| Thread and envelope | Thread, installed projection, offset and head/body dimensions. | Confirm the fit with mating components after installation. |
Keep installation requirements with the part number
Include fastener material and finish along with the panel details. If the panel manufacturing process or coating sequence is controlled, send that information too. Do not substitute a different clinching type simply because the projecting or internal thread matches.
Panel fastening for electronics and equipment
Self-clinching hardware is used on chassis, enclosures, brackets and other sheet-metal parts. For a replacement, identify the original product and panel condition. For new production, provide the installation drawing and acceptance requirements with the bill of material.
Before you order
Is any press-in fastener a self-clinching fastener?
No. Different attachment designs can use different hole, sheet and installation requirements. Identify the actual product family.
Can I select one from thread size alone?
No. Include the sheet requirements, hole preparation and complete series or shank designation.
Can a fastener intended for one sheet material be used in another?
Check the exact product’s permitted material and hardness conditions. A change requires review of the full installation requirement.
Send the panel details with the fastener requirement
Include the full manufacturer number or current drawings, quantity and delivery date. Add sheet material, thickness, hardness where controlled, hole details, finish and required documentation.
