// PRODUCT SELECTION
Studs for fastening and mounting points.
A stud can have the same thread at both ends, different end configurations or a mounting feature that stays in the parent part. Send Webson the complete designation or drawing so both the mating thread and attachment arrangement can be quoted.

| Component | What it does | What to specify |
|---|---|---|
| Double-ended studs | Provide the specified threaded attachment at each end. | Each thread callout, end length, center section and overall length. |
| Fully threaded studs | Use the threaded extent and end preparation defined for the part. | Thread, length, material and end details. |
| Self-clinching or press-installed studs | Attach using the selected product’s panel installation method. | Parent material, thickness, hardness and hole preparation. |
| Weld or other mounting studs | Use a specific attachment process and mounting form. | Complete product designation, base geometry and process requirements. |
Separate overall length from useful engagement
The full length of a stud does not describe how much thread is available at either interface. Check thread runout, the middle section and any installed projection. Use the drawing’s conventions for special ends and mounting features.

| Feature | Information to send | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| End threads | Size, pitch, class and threaded length at each end. | Do not assume both ends are identical. |
| Body and overall length | Center diameter, unthreaded length and overall limits. | Check the installed projection and assembly stack. |
| Mounting feature | Head, weld base, clinching feature or other attachment. | Match the product and parent-part requirements. |
| Installation access | Tooling space and the assembly sequence. | Identify installation and service constraints before substitution. |
The parent material is part of an installed-stud requirement
For a panel-mounted stud, include the panel material and condition, thickness and prepared hole. For a threaded stud, preserve the material grade, finish and installation controls. Different attachment processes are not interchangeable just because the projecting thread matches.
Production mounting and replacement requirements
Studs are used where the design calls for a fixed or defined projecting thread. Include mating nuts, washers and the installation drawing when available. For a damaged assembly, identify whether only the stud or the complete attachment needs replacement.
Before you order
Does a matching outside thread identify a replacement stud?
No. Check the attachment end, installed projection, material and full geometry.
Can both ends use different threads?
Some designs do. Identify each end explicitly rather than relying on a short size description.
What helps identify a panel-mounted stud?
The manufacturer number, panel material and thickness, hole preparation, mounting form and installed thread projection.
Quote both interfaces
Send the part number or drawing revision, quantity, delivery date and details for both ends. Add parent-part and installation requirements, material, finish and required documentation.
