// PRODUCT SELECTION

Nuts matched to the thread and joint.

A matching thread is the starting point for selecting a nut. Height, bearing face, material grade and any locking feature also have to suit the joint. Webson quotes standard and specialty nuts from complete part designations or drawings.

ComponentWhat it doesWhat to specify
Plain hex nutsProvide an internally threaded fastening point with a hex body.Thread, grade, height, width across flats and finish.
Prevailing-torque locknutsInclude the specified all-metal or nonmetallic locking feature.Full type, material, temperature requirements and installation controls.
Flange nutsAdd a bearing flange at the joint face.Flange dimensions, surface form and the specified mating surface.
Thin and specialty nutsFit a particular envelope, attachment or adjustment arrangement.Drawing or standard, dimensions and intended joint requirement.

Check the nut envelope as well as the thread

Two nuts can share a thread and still differ in height, wrench size, bearing area or load-bearing requirements. Preserve the complete standard or manufacturer number when ordering a replacement.

FeatureInformation to sendWhat to check
ThreadSize, pitch or threads per inch, series and class where specified.Match the bolt or stud requirement, including inch versus metric.
Height and hexOverall height and width across flats.Check available space, tool access and the specified nut geometry.
Bearing faceFlange, serrations, washer face or other specified form.Compare the contact surface to the joint drawing.
Locking featureExact prevailing-torque or other retention design.Keep required installation, temperature and reuse controls.
Material and finishGrade or property class, material and coating.A similar appearance does not establish an equivalent strength or finish.

Specify the complete nut and bolt combination

Keep the required grade, coating and lubrication conditions with the part designation. If the assembly specifies a particular nut with a bolt or stud, quote that combination. A proposed substitute needs a review of the full joint requirement, not just a thread check.

Purchasing from a part number or bill of material

Include nuts, mating screws or studs and washers in one list. For a Mil-Spec requirement, preserve the full dash number and required issue. The reference pages help identify selected dimensions; availability and order documentation are confirmed with the quote.

Before you order

Can I replace a standard nut with a thin nut?

Only if the joint design permits it. Height and geometry can affect engagement and load-bearing requirements.

Are all locknuts the same?

No. Locking mechanisms, materials, dimensions and service limits differ. Use the specified type and complete designation.

What if I know only the mating bolt size?

Send that information, but also identify the required nut style, grade, finish and available envelope. A drawing or existing part number is preferable.

Send the nut requirement with its mating details

Include the full designation or drawing, quantity, delivery date, thread, grade, style and finish. Add any source, locking-feature or documentation requirements.
