// TECHNICAL RESOURCES

MS51830 keylocking inserts.

Review lightweight and miniature insert thread relationships, material/locking notation and adjacent keylocking families.

// FAMILY SELECTION

Choose the insert family before the thread

MS51830 identifies miniature and lightweight keylocking inserts. The outside thread and insert envelope must suit the parent component as well as the screw entering the insert. MS51831 and MS51832 cover different duty families, so an internal-thread match alone does not establish an equivalent outside fit.

Internal and external thread references

Use the 16 internal/external thread relationships below to help identify the required MS51830 insert. The summary follows revision G. Confirm the issue required by your drawing and purchase order. Modified external minor diameters, insert dimensions, tolerances and installation requirements are not reproduced here.

// MATERIAL AND FINISH

Material and finish notation

Revision G uses the following material designators in place of the separator dash.

MS51830G material designators
ItemReference
Dash (-)303 or 303Se corrosion-resistant steel
CAA286 corrosion-resistant steel
A4140 or 8740 alloy steel; cadmium plated; revision G prohibits this designator for new designs
QX4140 or 8740 alloy steel; zinc-nickel plated per MIL-PRF-32647, Type K16

Revision G permits QX in place of A for ground vehicle applications; this is not a general substitution authorization for other applications.

// PART-NUMBER EXAMPLES

Internal locking and application suffixes

Revision G distinguishes application-specific locking and lubrication. L specifies internal thread lock for aerospace applications, with SAE AS5272 Type I dry-film lubricant. LM specifies internal thread lock for non-aerospace applications, with MIL-PRF-46010 lubricant. Leave the suffix blank when internal thread lock is not required.

MS51830-106L303/303Se material; dash 106; aerospace internal thread lock
MS51830CA106LA286 material; dash 106; aerospace internal thread lock
MS51830QX106LMZinc-nickel plated alloy steel; dash 106; non-aerospace internal thread lock

These examples explain revision G notation and do not indicate Webson stock. MIL-PRF-46010 lubricant is not technically equivalent to the earlier MIL-L-46010 Type I lubricant; aerospace use requires validation. Confirm the complete requirement before requesting an alternative.
