// ASSEMBLY COMPONENTS

Clips and retaining components for assemblies.

Retaining hardware is selected around the feature it holds: a shaft groove, housing bore, panel edge or mating component. Send Webson the full part number or drawing so the retaining geometry can be matched along with the material and finish.

External retaining ringsSeat in the specified shaft groove.Shaft diameter, groove diameter and width, and ring style.
Internal retaining ringsSeat in the specified housing or bore groove.Bore, groove geometry and installation clearance.
E-clips and radial stylesFit using the specified radial installation arrangement.Groove details, access and exact ring designation.
Panel and spring clipsAttach to an edge, hole or mating part according to the design.Panel thickness, feature geometry, engagement and material.

Measure the mating geometry before choosing a replacement

A retaining ring’s free dimensions differ from its installed condition. Use the manufacturer’s shaft or housing selection data and groove requirements. Clip opening size alone does not establish an interchangeable part.

FeatureInformation to sendWhat to check
Shaft or housingDiameter and whether retention is external or internal.Select the correct ring family for that location.
GrooveDiameter, width and other specified details.A nominal shaft size does not define every compatible groove.
Retaining envelopeRing thickness, projection and nearby clearances.Leave room for installation and removal tools where required.
Panel interfaceEdge thickness, hole, slot or engagement geometry.Confirm the fit for a panel or spring clip.

Load and environment belong with the part designation

Specify material, heat treatment and finish where required. Include any axial load, speed, exposure or test criteria stated by the assembly drawing. Retention depends on the ring or clip, its mating feature and the installation; a similar shape does not establish equal capacity.

Assembly and service requirements

Retaining components hold parts in position without the same attachment arrangement as a conventional nut and screw. Identify whether the assembly requires a particular installation direction, removal method or replacement policy. Keep the manufacturer designation and drawing revision on repeat orders.

Before you order

Can I choose a retaining ring from shaft diameter alone?

Shaft diameter is a starting point. Also match the ring family, groove and installation requirements.

Are internal and external rings interchangeable?

No. They are designed for different installed locations and geometry. Use the specified family and mating-feature dimensions.

Can Webson identify a clip from a photo?

A photo can help identify the style. Add dimensions and the mating-part details; a photo alone may not establish an exact replacement.

Send the clip and mating-feature details

Include the complete part number or drawing, quantity and delivery date. Add shaft or bore and groove details, or panel attachment dimensions, with material, finish and required documentation.
