// PRODUCT SELECTION

Hex bolts and cap screws for specified joints.

Thread size and length identify only part of a bolt requirement. Grade, head dimensions, threaded length and finish also need to match the assembly. Webson quotes hex bolts and cap screws from standards, manufacturer numbers and controlled drawings.

ComponentWhat it doesWhat to specify
Hex cap screwsUse the head, bearing and dimensional requirements of the stated standard.Full standard, thread, length, grade and finish.
Hex boltsFollow the bolt form and tolerances required by the joint.Head and shank details, threaded portion and material.
Fully threaded stylesHave the threaded extent defined for the selected product.Length, usable thread and any thread-runout requirements.
Drawing-specific boltsMeet a controlled geometry or process requirement.Current revision, tolerances, material and inspection requirements.

Check grip and engagement as well as overall fit

For a projecting hex head, the specified length is commonly measured from the bearing face beneath the head. The unthreaded portion and usable thread length are separate details. Use the selected standard or drawing to check the full stack.

FeatureInformation to sendWhat to check
ThreadDiameter, pitch and required series or class.Match the mating nut or tapped component.
Length and gripUnder-head length and the specified unthreaded portion.Check the stack, thread transition and required engagement.
HeadWidth across flats, height and bearing-face requirements.Allow wrench clearance and proper seating.
Grade and finishMaterial or strength designation and coating.A matching nominal size does not establish an approved substitute.

Quote the complete joint requirement

Include the grade, finish and any specified lubrication or coating controls. List required nuts and washers alongside the bolt. Tightening requirements belong to the approved joint and installation procedure; they should not be inferred from size alone.

Standard parts and recurring assembly lists

Send an existing designation for repeat orders. If the part comes from a drawing, include the revision and any critical inspection requirements. A purchase list can include standard hardware and drawing-specific items in the same inquiry.

Before you order

Are a hex bolt and a hex cap screw always interchangeable?

Do not assume so. Head, bearing, tolerance and other requirements can differ between standards. Preserve the specified designation.

Does a longer bolt always have more thread?

Thread length depends on the standard and product. Check the actual threaded extent and unthreaded grip.

Can Webson quote MS hex cap screws?

Yes. Send the complete designation and required issue, or use the existing Mil-Spec references to identify a published selection.

Send size, grade and finish together

Include the complete designation or drawing revision, quantity, delivery date, thread, length, grade and finish. Add thread-length controls, source restrictions and required documents.
