A shim sets a defined distance within an assembly. Thickness and its tolerance are central to the requirement, but profile, flatness and material matter too. Webson can quote individual shims or a specified shim-pack arrangement from a drawing or part number.

Check thickness across the required profile
For a drawing-specific shim, include the complete outline, cutouts and locating features. If the drawing controls flatness, burrs or surface finish, preserve those requirements. Thickness alone does not identify the finished part.

Specify the material and finished condition
Include material grade, hardness or temper where controlled, and any coating. For very thin parts, handling and packaging may be important to preserve the finished condition. State those requirements in the inquiry rather than assuming a general washer supply format.
Adjustment at assembly and maintenance
Shims are used to set alignment, clearance or spacing under the assembly’s adjustment procedure. Identify the approved final arrangement and whether the requirement is for fixed pieces or a selectable set. The shim drawing and assembly instructions determine the permitted stack.

Only if its dimensions, tolerances, material and surface condition meet the approved requirement.
Does nominal thickness describe the full requirement?
No. Include the tolerance and any flatness, profile or layer controls.
