// ELECTRONIC HARDWARE
Threaded inserts for housings and electronic assemblies.
An insert adds a threaded attachment to a housing, boss or other component. Its outside profile and installation method need to suit the parent material as well as the mating screw. Send Webson the insert number or the part and installation drawings for quotation.

Installation is part of the part selection
On a small screen, scroll sideways to see the full table.
| Component | What it does | What to specify |
|---|---|---|
| Heat or ultrasonic inserts | Install into compatible thermoplastic using the specified process. | Resin, mounting-hole profile, insert size and installation method. |
| Press-in inserts | Seat mechanically into the prepared hole specified for that design. | Parent material, hole dimensions and required installation conditions. |
| Molded-in inserts | Locate in the mold before the surrounding plastic is formed. | Molding process, insert location and protection of the internal thread. |
| Inserts for metal and thread repair | Use the particular insert system and prepared thread or hole. | System designation, parent material, installation tooling and any locking feature. |
Identify both the internal thread and the receiving feature
A replacement must match more than the screw. Compare the insert’s outside profile, installed length, flange if present and the prepared hole. Inserts that share an internal thread can require different bosses or tooling.

| Feature | Information to send | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Mating thread | Size, pitch, class if specified and usable depth. | Check screw engagement and clearance beyond the insert. |
| Parent material | Exact resin or metal and relevant grade or condition. | The installation process must suit that material. |
| Receiving hole | Diameter, depth, taper and tolerances from the installation drawing. | Do not size the hole from the insert’s nominal outside diameter alone. |
| Insert envelope | Body length, outside profile and flange geometry. | Check boss size, surrounding material and installed position. |
| Installation | Heat, ultrasonic, press-in, molded-in or system-specific method. | Identify tooling and production constraints before proposing a substitute. |
Keep the installation specification with the insert
For plastic housings, include the resin designation and the boss drawing when available. For repair systems, provide the exact system and size. Performance figures depend on the insert, parent material and installation; a catalog value for one arrangement does not establish the result in another.
Housings that need repeat screw assembly
Threaded inserts are used in electronic housings, instrument cases and other parts that need a defined threaded interface. Tell us whether the part is for a new production process, an existing assembly or an approved repair. That distinction affects what must match.
Before you order
Are heat-installed and press-in inserts interchangeable?
Not on internal thread size alone. Their outside profiles, receiving holes and installation processes may differ. Compare the complete installation requirement.
What information is needed for a plastic housing?
Send the resin, insert number or drawing, receiving-hole and boss dimensions, installation method and mating screw requirement.
Is a rivet nut the same type of insert?
A rivet nut is a blind-installed threaded fastener with its own grip, hole and setting requirements. Use the separate rivet nut page for sheet and panel applications.
Quote the insert with its installation details
Send the manufacturer and full part number, quantity and delivery date. If working from drawings, include the internal thread, body dimensions, parent material, receiving hole and installation method. Add source and documentation requirements.
