Flat-point set screw length and point diameter
L includes the flat point. C is flat point diameter; J is nominal socket width across flats.

Identify the point, thread and configuration

MS51031 identifies 300-series stainless steel hex-socket flat-point set screws with UNF-3A threads and a passivated finish in the reviewed issue. This table covers 17 selected self-locking references in 10-32 and 1/4-28; asterisked dash numbers are omitted. These selected dash numbers identify self-locking screws; plain screws use different dash numbers.

All dimensions are in inches. Length preserves printed decimal values such as 0.188 and 0.312; the adjacent ± value is the drawing’s length tolerance. Point values are minimum–maximum limits. J is the drawing’s nominal socket width across flats, not a measured acceptance range.

// MEASUREMENT GUIDE

Measure length and point geometry

L is overall screw length from the socket end to the flat point. C is the flat point diameter; J is nominal socket width across flats. The point and socket dimensions describe different ends of the screw.

The flat contact end differs from a recessed cup point and a projecting half-dog point. Confirm the required contact geometry before comparing replacement sizes.

// ORDERING DETAILS

Read the dash number and locking requirement

The selected MS51031B rows are self-locking references in the 10-32 and 1/4-28 columns. Locking is encoded by the table’s dash number, not by adding an L suffix. For example, MS51031-107 is a self-locking 10-32 screw with a 0.500-inch length. The reviewed drawing’s asterisked inactive-for-new-design selections are outside this table.

The locking element, effective locking area and torque provisions remain subject to the governing procurement issue and assembly requirements. This selected table does not supply a tightening torque.

// DRAWING REQUIREMENTS

Match the governing drawing issue

Dimensions summarize MS51031B, sheets 1–2, 29 December 1972. These are selected historical references for purchasing identification. The issue required by your drawing controls full geometry, thread requirements, material, finish, locking provisions and inspection. No automatic successor or part-number substitution is implied.
