Handles and attachment styles

| Style | Typical function | Details to identify |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed pull handles | A projecting grip for a panel, drawer or equipment enclosure. | Mounting centers, grip opening, attachment threads and overall projection. |
| Folding and drop handles | A grip that can move closer to the panel when not in use. | Stowed and deployed envelopes, pivot clearance and any detent or spring action. |
| Flush and recessed pulls | A low-profile grip fitted into a prepared panel opening. | Cutout geometry, panel thickness, rear clearance and retaining method. |
| Rack and chassis handles | Access or handling points on electronic equipment. | Mounting pattern, adjacent equipment clearance and the manufacturer’s specified load conditions. |
Dimensions to include with your inquiry
The schematic shows one fixed pull arrangement. Folding and recessed products need additional installed and moving-envelope dimensions. Use the exact manufacturer drawing before drilling the panel or selecting mounting fasteners.

| Feature | What to specify | Fit and installation check |
|---|---|---|
| Mounting centers C | Center-to-center distance between mounting features. | Do not substitute overall handle length for mounting centers. |
| Grip clearance G | Clear space between the panel and underside of the grip. | Check finger or glove access and nearby controls. |
| Overall projection P | Maximum distance the installed handle projects from the panel. | Check doors, rack covers, packaging and neighboring equipment. |
| Attachment and panel | Internal thread, external stud or other retention method; panel thickness and mounting access. | Confirm fastener engagement, rear clearance and any required washers or reinforcement. |
| Cutout or recess | Manufacturer drawing for any opening and its tolerances. | A matching outside shape does not establish a matching installation. |
Material, finish and operating requirements
Specify the required metal or molded material, finish, color and surface texture. For exposed hardware, include the cleaning, corrosion and temperature requirements that apply. A material name or handle shape alone does not establish a load rating.
Include the applicable specifications and any required test or compliance documentation with the inquiry. Webson reviews sourcing options for the individual component and order.
Equipment and electronic assembly applications
Handles and pulls provide access to removable panels, drawers, instruments, electronic racks and enclosures. For equipment handling, confirm the manufacturer’s stated load, direction and mounting conditions against the intended use. Installation strength also depends on the fasteners and supporting panel.
Combine related hardware in one bill of material. Repeat production requirements can be reviewed for custom kitting or vendor-managed inventory.
Questions before ordering
Can I replace a handle using mounting centers alone?
Mounting centers are a useful starting point, but also compare thread size, panel thickness, grip clearance, overall projection, material, finish and any load requirements.
What is the difference between front and rear mounting?
The terms describe the specified installation arrangement and fastener access. Check the product drawing for the attachment method and the side from which installation is performed.
Does a pull handle have a lifting rating?
Use only a manufacturer’s published rating and its stated mounting and loading conditions. The size or appearance of a pull does not establish suitability for lifting equipment.
Can I quote a handle together with other electronic hardware?
Yes. Include the handle part number or drawing alongside spacers, standoffs and other items in your bill of material. Webson can review the combined sourcing requirement.
